Rückversicherung heißt: Versicherer versichern sich selbst. Genau das ist das Geschäft der Hannover Rück SE, und zwar in einer Größenordnung von 26,8 Milliarden Euro Rückversicherungsumsatz im Geschäftsjahr 2025. Erstversicherer geben Risiken weiter, die sie allein nicht schultern wollen: eine schwere Hurrikan-Saison, ein Erdbeben, ein Großbrand in einer Industrieanlage. Rund 4.000 Mitarbeitende in 27 Büros auf fünf Kontinenten rechnen, prüfen und zeichnen dieses Geschäft.
Gezeichnet wird in zwei Bereichen, der Schaden- und der Personen-Rückversicherung. Das deutsche Schadengeschäft läuft über die Tochter E+S Rück, nach Unternehmensangaben der zweitgrößte Schaden-Rückversicherer im deutschen Markt. Gegründet wurde das Haus 1966 in Hannover, wo es bis heute seinen Sitz hat, an der Karl-Wiechert-Allee im Osten der Stadt. Die Rechtsform ist seit 2013 die einer Europäischen Gesellschaft (SE).
Die Zahlen für 2025 hat das Unternehmen im März 2026 vorgelegt: 2,6 Milliarden Euro Nettokonzerngewinn, 12,9 Milliarden Euro Eigenkapital, eine Eigenkapitalrendite von 21,4 Prozent. Standard & Poor's bewertet die Finanzkraft mit AA- ("Very Strong"), A.M. Best mit A+ ("Superior"). Mehrheitsaktionärin ist die Talanx AG mit 50,2 Prozent der Anteile, der Rest liegt im Streubesitz; die Aktie ist im DAX notiert. Für Bewerberinnen und Bewerber heißt das vor allem eines: ein Arbeitgeber, der seit sechs Jahrzehnten existiert und dessen Geschäft konjunkturell wenig mitschwingt.
Wer hier arbeitet, arbeitet fast zwangsläufig über Ländergrenzen hinweg. In den 27 Offices sitzen Kolleginnen und Kollegen, die die lokalen Märkte, Gesetze und Kundenbedürfnisse kennen, und ein Risiko in Asien wird gemeinsam mit den Teams vor Ort bewertet. Mathematisch Ausgebildete finden Einstiege im Aktuariat, im Risikomanagement oder in der Quotierung. In der IT arbeiten Softwareentwicklerinnen, Data Scientists und Systemtechniker an den Systemen, mit denen das Geschäft überhaupt erst rechenbar wird. Dazu kommen kaufmännische Rollen rund um Vertragsbearbeitung und Finanzen.
Den Einstieg gibt es auf mehreren Wegen: Praktikum, Werkstudium, Trainee-Programm oder Direkteinstieg nach dem Studium. Wie viele Menschen genau am Standort Hannover beschäftigt sind, weist das Unternehmen öffentlich nicht aus. Wer sich für das duale Studium entscheidet, legt nach zwei Jahren die IHK-Prüfung zur Kauffrau oder zum Kaufmann für Versicherungen und Finanzanlagen ab und schließt an der FHDW Hannover mit dem Bachelor of Arts ab. Die Studienkosten trägt die Hannover Rück, dazu gibt es eine Ausbildungsvergütung nach Tarif.
