Data Governance Principal (m/f/d)

Your Tasks

• Ownership and continuous evolution of the enterprise data governance framework, including policies, standards, data classification, and metadata management
• Extension of data governance into retail and product data domains (e.g. assortment, pricing, category management) , balancing a hands-on approach whilst ensuring a secure data & governance framework
• Close collaboration with Legal, Tax, IT Security, and Data Privacy teams to ensure alignment of governance frameworks with regulatory and risk requirements
• Coordination of the Data Domain Council, including support of domain working groups, resolution of conflicting priorities between domains and escalation of unresolved issues with clear options
• Leadership of data quality governance through the definition of KPIs, escalation paths, and remediation workflows in collaboration with domain leads
• Maintenance and continuous enhancement of the enterprise data catalog and business glossary on GCP/BigQuery, leveraging tools such as Dataplex, DataHub, and Collibra
• Support of GDPR compliance activities, including data classification, PII discovery, and maintenance of Records of Processing Activities (RoPA)
• Monitoring and reporting of governance maturity across domains, with a focus on continuous improvement and progress reporting to the Data Board
• Functioning as the operational interface between the central Data & AI team and business-side domain leads, ensuring translation of governance requirements into actionable processes
• Design and steering of change management processes to drive governance adoption across ~11 markets, including stakeholder alignment, communication, and rollout planning in a federated operating model

Your Profile

• Several years in data governance, data management, or a related discipline in a complex, multi-market organization, preferably in a retailer
• Proven ability to drive governance adoption in a federated model — influencing and gaining genuine commitment from stakeholders without formal authority over them
• Strong command of data governance frameworks and best practices (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK); ability to adapt them pragmatically to organizational context
• Hands-on experience with data catalog and metadata tools — Dataplex, DataHub, Collibra, or similar
• Familiarity with GDPR and data privacy requirements, ideally in a retail or consumer context
• Proven ability to work in a federated model — influencing without direct authority across business and technology stakeholders
• Experience in change management and the design of change processes to embed governance practices in a federated operating model
• Cloud data platform experience, ideally GCP/BigQuery
• Excellent communication skills in English; German is a strong plus
