Rund 4.000 Menschen arbeiten am Münchner Stammsitz an der Königinstraße. Sie bewerten Risiken, die einzelne Versicherer nicht allein tragen wollen: Wirbelstürme, Cyberangriffe, Ausfälle ganzer Stromnetze. Das Geschäft heißt Rückversicherung, und die Münchener Rückversicherungs-Gesellschaft betreibt es seit 1880. Heute gehören knapp 46.000 Beschäftigte an über 50 Standorten weltweit zur Gruppe.
Rückversicherung bedeutet, dass Versicherer einen Teil ihrer Risiken weitergeben. Aktuare rechnen mit Statistik und Modellen durch, was ein Sturm oder ein Cyberangriff kosten kann, lange bevor etwas passiert. Underwriter bewerten diese Risiken, kalkulieren Prämien und verhandeln die Verträge, meist mit anderen Versicherungsgesellschaften als Kunden. Tritt der Schaden dann ein, koordinieren Schadenmanager die Abwicklung zwischen allen Beteiligten.
Die Gruppe ist breiter aufgestellt als ihr Kerngeschäft. Über die Tochter ERGO ist sie auch Erstversicherer, in mehr als 30 Ländern und für rund 35 Millionen Kundinnen und Kunden; die MEAG verwaltet die Kapitalanlagen des Konzerns. Ende 2025 arbeiteten knapp 46.000 Menschen für die Gruppe (Konzerngeschäftsbericht 2025). Wie viele davon in Deutschland beschäftigt sind, weist der Konzern nicht gesondert aus. Der Versicherungsumsatz lag 2025 bei 60,4 Milliarden Euro, das Konzernergebnis bei 6,1 Milliarden Euro und damit zum fünften Mal in Folge über dem eigenen Jahresziel. Die Aktie notiert im DAX.
Über 180 verschiedene Jobprofile listet das Unternehmen allein für den Standort Deutschland. Neben Mathematik und Underwriting arbeiten hier Ingenieurinnen und Naturwissenschaftler, die technische Risiken einschätzen, dazu Data Scientists, die Schadenmodelle bauen. Etwa jede fünfte Person am Münchner Campus kommt aus dem Ausland, insgesamt sind dort 80 Nationalitäten vertreten. Wer direkt von der Hochschule kommt, steigt oft über das International Graduate Trainee Programme ein: rund 20 Monate Training on the job, unbefristeter Vertrag ab dem ersten Tag, ein fester Buddy für den Anfang.
